GENESIS

GENESIS

It was late nineties when a group of likeminded people were dishearten to see the distress of the urban poor in the city of Kolkata. They feel that it is quite impossible to reach the people, but an association would be the best option to start with. This gave the idea of forming an organization and thus it was registered on November 18, 1999. Their primary aim was to work for the people in distress, underprivileged and having destructive, anti-social behavior.

This was going well for some years but suddenly the board members were involved in job and located outside of the town, thus the activities were stopped. Things were in mind but due to lack of coordination nothing was going positive. In April, 2009 they found one person who passionately took the charge and it rolls on again. Under the leadership of Mr. Kajal Das, AASTHA JADABPUR is regained and is working at its own pace. At that time again Aastha Jadabpur started its journey with the education of rag picker children, giving support to Aila effected people in Sundarban area, listed for entitlements for the homeless (Birth Certificate, Ration Card, Voter Card, Bank account, other Pension Schemes etc.) in South and North Kolkata, livelihood programmes to empower the homeless, awareness programmes on child marriage, dowry, anti-addiction, general health & hygiene, menstrual health & hygiene, importance of nutrition of pregnant mother & child, importance of literacy among all specially girl children etc.
